Health Surveillance

- HSE Built around the health surveillance cycle
- Nationwide Onsite clinical delivery
What is health surveillance?
Health surveillance is an ongoing, systematic process of monitoring an employee’s health over time to detect early signs of work-related illness before they become serious. It’s a legal requirement where employees are regularly exposed to workplace hazards — including noise, vibration, hazardous substances, dust, fumes, solvents and biological agents.
Our programmes are built around the HSE health surveillance cycle, giving a structured, evidence-based approach to monitoring your workforce.
- Protect your organisation against potential exposure-related claims
- Ensure compliance with your legal obligations
- Detect early signs of work-related ill health, enabling timely intervention
- Confirm your workplace environmental controls are working effectively
- Establish baseline health measurements to support risk assessment
- Create an open dialogue between employees and employers about health at work
What are fit-for-role assessments?
Fit-for-role assessments confirm that an employee is physically and mentally capable of safely performing their role. Unlike health surveillance, which monitors health over time, this is a point-in-time evaluation of current fitness for a specific role or task.
They’re particularly important where an underlying health condition could pose a risk to the individual, colleagues or the public — for example forklift truck drivers, those working at height, in confined spaces, or night workers. One-off clearance assessments can also be arranged for temporary or project-based workers. All fit-for-role assessments are conducted onsite by COPE’s experienced clinicians.
